Springtime tends to be a time of much anticipation and excitement. The weather is growing warmer, the school year is winding down, and spring activities are in full force. Let’s not forget about the end of school year field trips, remembering to pack bagged lunches, band concerts, and more. Being a mom myself, with two busy kids, it can become challenging to stay on top of my health and wellness needs, not to mention those of my entire family.
Here are some things I do to try and help us stay organized and healthy during the busy spring season:
- Simplifying mealtimes
Eating clean, healthy meals is top priority for me, so when I can, I try to meal plan and batch cook so we have enough for leftovers. Soups and stews are great for this, in addition to sheet pan meals and grilling lots of protein and veggies. There have never been more options for healthy meal delivery services as well!
2. Stay active with time constraints
Walk during team practices if you are able. Invite other parents to chat while you walk! Go to bed earlier and wake up earlier to get a workout in before the busy day starts. Go for family bike rides.
3. Relaxation and mental recharge
The stress point of not a lot of personal time during the busy spring months can be stressful for a lot of parents. Time blocking can be helpful. Find a block of time, 30- 60 minutes each week, to schedule time to do nothing but relax. Read a book, take a bath, go for a walk. Try mindfulness apps like Headspace or Calm for guided breathing and meditations to reduce your body’s response to stress. Put your phone on “do not disturb” each evening. Write down everything on your mind before bed for better sleep.
The spring season should be a time of renewed energy and FUN! Take small steps toward change to support your health and reduce stress in this season.
